Last few days in Massachusetts end in a refreshing break with Mom & Dad Miller and the Huyard family…

We’ve been hit by more rain this past week or so than we did for the first part of our hike…I guess we got a bit spoiled. None-the-less, rain on a tent fly is pretty peaceful…
…

Pastoral New England…

Dam hard work….

Dodging puddles in the trail that has become a stream…

Morning chores @ Upper Goose Cabin…

UGP Cont…

And the pond itself…

(UGP) Canoes available for hiker use…

They are making a come-back…

Breaking camp…

Trying to get drivers to honk on the I-90 overpass…

Still smilin’….

Having snacks @ the Cookie Lady’s place…

She and her husband graduated from Iowa State (back in the 40’s or 50’s?) and moved to Mass to work for GE. They have become AT icons over the past 30 years by offering free cookies and options to pick blue-berries or hang out in their extensive gardens just yards from the AT….

Rockin’ yet another stream crossing….

Looking out toward Dalton @ the marble “cobbles” overlook…

Don’t attempt this @ home…

Hanging out with Wyatt, Ryan & Phyzzie @ the shelter before Mt. Greylock…

A bit damp atop Mt. Greylock (highest point in Mass)…

Hanging out @ a Shaker historical site with the family (Huyard’s always looking happy ;-))…

Still trying to keep up with dad…

Someone wasn’t impressed with the educational signage….

Still no rain!

I might have to get one of these to hike in!

Ben learning to use a loom…

Checking out Herman Melville’s place near Pittsfield…

The view of Mt. Greylock (the whale) that inspired Moby Dick…

At the Crane paper factory museum in Dalton (where US dollar currency paper is pulped and pressed before being sent to the mint for printing)….

US currency contains little if any wood product (approx. 80% cotton/20% linen pulp). Old denim was often used until about 15 years ago when too much spandex was mixed with the cotton…

Thanks mom & dad Miller for giving us a few days of pain/rain-free enjoyment! 🙂
You’re moving fast through the states.

Was that Farley on the porch roof of Herman Melville’s place? He goes missing from moment to moment, and usually ends up in an unexpected location! he is off to race up and down hills with the big boys in a moment

Loved the rain sound recording; since we have had rain every day for the last 30, we were sure you had to be getting SOME of it… We have learned to do all outdoor tasks when it is not raining whatever the time of day!
