Over the past 10 days we’ve passed through the state lovingly known to hikers as “Ver-mud”, catching the last part of the state’s rainiest June in over 130 years. 🙂

The Huyards & Dad Miller hiked a few miles with us after our fabulous 3 day relaxation-fest in western Massachusetts…

Our sherpas (Dwight & Isaac) looking a little tired after toting our packs up the first mile or so. 🙂

On in to Vermont!

Cozy & warm on a stormy night…

Looking to the east out of the Glastonbury Mtn. fire-tower…

…and now down. Pretty steep!

Our first pile of Moose Poo!

Wet, cold & windy atop Stratton Mtn. Didn’t stay long…

Our first Moose Tracks…fairly fresh, but no sign of the big beasts…

Up the ski slope toward Bromley Peak…

A space port atop the mountain?

Day-hikers insisted they take our pic atop Bromley for our annual christmas card…happy holiday’s all! :p

We decided a selfie might make for a better holiday greeting…

Not a bad view, eh?

Clarendon Gorge…

A little contemplation breather…

Mountain stream cooled root beer…thanks, I’ll have one!

Nearing Killington Peak and the highest shelter/campsite on the AT in Vermont…

Puppies beware!

Waiting on a bus to Rutland to pick up supplies…

Hiker Hostel in Rutland run by a group of 70’s Christian hippies. We didn’t stay there, but many hikers enjoy the place…

In @ the Long Trail gag “hiker menu”…

“The Tower” shelter (east of Killington) where we stayed the night of July 4th. From the perch on top we could see fireworks from dozens of Vermont & New Hampshire communities…

Jess on her way to a consultation with Ben & Jerry’s employees…

Privy at the Thistle Hill shelter…it worked well! 🙂

Beginning to see more conifer forests…

It’s nice when spiders don’t spin their webs in the middle of the trail…

West Hartford, VT resident Randy rings his bell and lures hikers over for sodas & food!
This is a great post! Watch out for those moose!!!

Greetings from the Casel Family! We are amazed at your pioneering spirit! How many miles are you averaging per day? It appears you are ahead of schedule. Is that true? You are eating up the miles fast!
So fun to watch your adventures on the AT. Looking good and the scenery is absolutely beautiful! Take care of yourselves,
Beth

Your pictures are so great. It’s like we’re there without roughing it. I was at a party on the west side of the Hudson July 4 and we could multiple fireworks shows on the other side but not hear them.

Got dizzy just looking at the fire tower lookout stairs, but envied your fireworks view. A snort in the woods might be either a moose or a bear, so time for a break until the “whatever” moves on. LOVE FROM Your midwestern knowitall advice colimnists

There were a couple “space ports” in the Swiss Alps, too. I have no clue what they were for.

I investigated the “space ports” and if you will, imagine wintertime and skiers. With several feet of snow the space ports evolve into the ski lift and this is where the chairs go around to let people on and off.
