Our last few weeks within the state of Maine were spent winding around huge ponds and over rolling, tree-filled hills to reach the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail…Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Crossing the Kennebec River to Caratunk…the only distance on the AT where you don’t need to use your feet…

13 miles in to the “wilderness” we encountered a “trail magic” sign pointing 1/4 mile down a seemingly empty forest service road to a hunting cabin, where this gentleman and his buddy have periodically been treating hikers to food & drinks. BBQ Chicken and pie are not things normally encountered so far from civilization…
























So lucky you had a dry year; Mike and i have seen video of a wet year, and it is completely different, with walks on logs to ford shoulder-high streams. The greatest Kiss photo on the Greatest mountain. We’re packing now.
